How does American Identity come about? Is it necessary to create an identity, or is it something that just happens? I believe that it is something you have to earn. When my great-grandpa became old enough, he immigrated from Mexico to America. He told me about his experience in creating his American Identity. He agreed to me that sharing an American dream was one step closer towards being a true American.
My great-grandpa was raised and born in Mexico. When he reached the age of independence, he moved from Mexico to America. He was an immigrant from Mexico, and he had to work hard. In his first apartment, he was literally surrounded by bad things every day. He was able to get a job that paid well and worked hard for years. He met my grandma. They had children. They were kept away for five years because the whites didn’t like the couple. After some years, they became accepted by the community. My great grandpa bought a house in an improved neighborhood. My great-grandpa worked hard to get where he is today.
My great-grandpa’s contribution to the immigrant community is similar. My great-grandpa taught a lot to people who did not know much about his hometown. He shared the food of his hometown with everyone he knew. The American language has changed a lot since H. L. Mencken’s demonstration thirty years back. This quote is related to the story of my great-grandpa because he was able to enrich many people’s lives through Mexican food, religion and stories. His Mexican culture continues to enrich the lives of people today.
A strong American identity is formed by hard work and the American Dream. When my great-grandpa came to America, he had that exact identity. He spent his entire life working hard to make a name in his neighborhood. He was a model citizen in America because he never had any problems with the police. He can’t have that taken away.
